The Week in Pictures: 11.14.08

Last Friday, Lee’s sculptor friend Roxanne Jackson was in Portland for a solo show. As you can see, her work is absolutely amazing. I’d kill to have these three heads mounted on my living room wall! You can see her work at Gallery Homeland.

Saturday night was spent hanging out in the mountains at my Grandma & Grandpa’s cabin. They live on 10 acres of land in the forest on the way to Mt. Hood. Literally, you drive a half mile up a gravel road to reach their house. I was woefully unprepared for this journey and trampled through the dark & damp forest in my burgundy four inch Dries wedges. Perhaps the forest creatures were impressed? Thank god I didn’t break an ankle.

I just rediscovered my Minnie Mouse-style belt (closet cleaning does wonders!) and can’t get enough of it. It reminds me very much of the bow crazy Marc by Marc accessories that I am seeing everywhere!

I’m still really happy with my Nixon Chalet. Thanks so much for sharing your favorite watches earlier in the week! This picture was taken at my desk, where I’ve spent the last few days illustrating geese, fuzzy dice, a hip hop chick, a deer head and helicopters for the side of a trade show booth. I love the variety of work at my job. There’s never a dull moment!

Somebody forgot to do the dishes! I’m a big fan of everything, even boring everyday items representing an overall aesthetic. Design is lurking everywhere if you’re willing to embrace it.

I’ve started digging through old scans and collages, figuring out what I want to do for new poster prints and shirts. I’m hoping to have some new things for sale by the end of this year!
How was your week? What made your heart go pitter-patter?

Beetroot brownies have made my heart go pitter patter this week – they are so velvetty and delicious!

I agree completely, design is everywhere if you look for it.
Got some good news this week – the company where I do design part time want to take me on permanently when I finish college in a few weeks!

Very cool sculpture. I am digging it.
My heart did flips over the fact I booked plane tickets to be in NYC over NYE. Very exciting.

Gorgeous patent booties, and cute belt!

First of all, those sculptures are intensely amazing! Contrary to what many people would think, I have a curious fascination with the macabre. I spent my childhood with a menagerie of garden-caught spiders and had aspirations to be an arachnologist ;D
Secondly, your belt is mega-cute! Hands down.
And thirdly, the serendipitous beauty of your dirty dishes in the sink has me envious. If only my dinnerware was as awesome as yours, then perhaps I could justify my towers of plates as being “design”
And what made my heart go pitter-patter? I have one exam until I graduate! Portfolio prep for art school applications is going pretty awesomely. And my mum’s been on leave from work, so it’s been pretty fun to just chill with her for the last few days. x

Vixel: I’m thinking about it! Still in the planning stages…
Helen: I can understand your apprehensiveness! I guess they don’t phase me because I’m used to having a mannequin next to me in my office. Beetroot brownies sound exotic!
Gala: You’re my dreamgirl! So much fun chatting it up online. Must do alllll the time when you’re back in NZ. We have so many plans to make! Love you always.
Breezy: Yep, yep! A culinary necessity.
Lisa: That’s fantastic! Every design company I know of here is cutting back due to the bad economy.
gina: they’re F21 tights that I bought last year and cut the feet off of.
Brie: How exciting. That will be a magical experience. I’ve been to NYC 9 times, but never over NYE!
diamondsinchampagne: Thank you!
Casey-Scott: Wow, you macabre lover, way ahead of your time! That’s awesome that you’re applying for art school. Do you have a particular major in mind?

Ahahah, I guess it goes hand in hand with my obsession with German expressionism? ;D I’m hoping to major in theatrical set & costume design. So, it’s still somewhat theatre-grounded: I just finished up my final year at a theatre high school, but I’ve been fascinated by the design end of things for years and have gotten a lot more passionate about pursuing it over the last year. I’m mega-excited!

Nubby, I am pretty thrilled for sure. I think a lot of my classmates might find it difficult to get work because there have been hardly any junior designer positions advertised in the last few months. I started working for these guys at the end of August before the economy went crazy!

i am such a victim of lame horror movies. i would be so afraid of those heads or a mannequin coming a live and terrorising me… haha!
