Brie: I discovered fashion at about the same time as you...didn't even really know what fashion mags were until I discovered a copy of Bazaar at the hairdresser's and was hooked! The difference foe me though was that grunge was in style and the only thing I could find at the mall were baggy jeans, cardigans and t-shirts! Times have definitely changed, for sure, Everything is so accessible and the looks are WAY more mature.

I was a bit bemused by Kirke's blog because I was still wearing jeans and kiddie t-shirts at that age...and had pigtails. I also remember at 12 is when I discovered fashion and started middle school. I evolved form the pigtail wearing kid to a follow the trends, play with a little make-up (not full-blown until 13 because of my mum's rules), and watch Mtv wishing I could dress like the new wave singers.

The only difference bewteen 12 year old me and Kirke is her mother let's her play around with fashion. I am sure she is still a 12 year old at heart...which means getting crushes on musicians and actors, hanging around shopping areas with friends, giggling with girlfriends, and secretly playing with Barbie...despite being a miniture fashionista.

Crystal: That's what her profile says! But You know how that stuff is...

Joanne: I think I was wearing colored Guess jeans and baggy sweatshirts! Ah, the early 90s...

whoa pink: Why? Times are different now, she has an amazing style and her mom helps her make some of her outfits. I probably kept a diary at 12, but this new generation has blogs.

lindsey clare and Ashe Mischief: There was a big article about this young girl blogging phenomenon a few months back in the NY Times magazine and many of the girls themselves got to chime in. I think that blogs are a great form of self expression for these girls and encourages reading and writing. As long as there's nothing scandalous, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me.

Whoa Pink & Lindsey Clare, I definitely had similar reactions to you both! While I remember reading "Teen" magazine at 12, I still wore jeans and t-shirts, and tried not to tell my friends I still played with Barbies. It frightened me a bit how much *older* than 12 she looks... she almost looks like a fresh-faced 18 year old. I love that she has such an amazing style, but I also hope that she *does* get to be a kid (like you said Lindsey Clare!).

nubby, great links once again! :)

whoa pink - i get slightly disturbed by things like that too. well, not so much disturbed as bemused. i have always loved fashion and colour and expressing myself with clothes since i was a kid, but i think blogs have caused an explosion in telling the world about it. i just hope this particular 12 year old remembers to be a kid as well. cause being a kid is fun, right?

Am I the only one who is slighlty disturbed about Kirke's blog? I mean. I'm all pro-fashion... but... there's something about her that makes me feel scared... like it's not OK. OMFG, when did I turn into an old lady with a closed mind?
