Fall 2008 Shoes: The New Wave

Top: Prada, Marni, Viktor & Rolf. Bottom: YSL, Marni, Alexander McQueen.
The new crop of shoes that many designers paraded down the runways for the Fall 2008 RTW collections were outrageously high, super sculptural or a combination of both. While I love the wackiness (I’d throw on those Pradas to go to the grocery store, even) I’m wondering how walkable they really are! I’m loving the future; it’s about time it arrived!
What do you think of the new crop of designer shoes? Super fun or truly, truly outrageous?

Am I the only person who thinks that peep toes should NOT be allowed in every shoe design, no matter what kind of shoe it is? The whole ‘peep toe boot’ thing is very ??? to me. I actually saw boots in a store the other day that had no heel and no toe, and I didn’t understand them.
As for their skyscraper-y goodness- I love sky high heels. They’re impractical, but absolutely lovely. Aesthetically pleasing to the max! The only ones I think I would actually purchase out those you’ve chosen to grace this entry with are the YSL’s, however.
These are a little out there for everyday wear, but who am I to talk? I think sequined berets are perfectly normal dinner attire.
Love,
Kate

I love the first pair (although not sure how comfortable they would be!) and would love the fifth red sparkly pair (I’m sure I’ve seen some like those on the High Street lately!) but I’m not a fan of peep toes (or indeed, shoe cleavage, a phrase that makes me shudder when I hear it!)

I love those Rolf ones, those are fantastic. Also like the Alexandar McQueens.
I think they’re very wearable! maybe a bit high, but definitely interesting and fun! the only ones I couldn’t see myself rocking are the prada pair, but i’ll leave them to you, nubby!

Kate: I sort of like the peep toes! Maybe it’s because you can get a little peek of the legwear underneath.
The YSL’s are so slick and futuristic and the exaggerated lines are really pleasing visually. I think that as an investment piece, they’d be timeless.
Hayley: It seems like designers are rolling out the peep toes because it’s a bit unexpected and god knows they’ve already tried every other combo that’s possible!
ML: It always seems like people take awhile to adjust to the ‘new thing’ and the Pradas are definitely in that boat…

I agree with Kate about the peep toes. And a peep toe boot makes it even worse.
The other ones looks way too high to walk in, but if I could, I would! Number 3,4 and 6 looks cool! :=

Super fun & a tad outrageous, of course! In my opinion, they’re all wearable with the right outfit, but i am the girl who just wore 6 inch Marni’s last night to- an outdoor hippie concert (on grass), attempted to go to a porn theatre (was closed!), and then randomly decided to go to a lame goth club (first time in many years). Weirrrd night.
My favourite are probably the Viktor & Rolf, followed by the Marni boots. (i absolutely adore the non-boot version!)

I’m with Nubby, I’d totally wear the Pradas to the grocery store (they actually appear to me to be the easiest to wear/walk in out of the lot). I don’t have anything against the peep-toe boot per se, aside from that it would be utterly useless in the wet winter NZ has been having, but I wish the model had worn more detailed tights – crazier patterns or bright colours – just to make that toe peep really pop. With the monotonous colour of the tights she’s wearing it doesn’t really do it for me. If you are going to go peep toe boot, it should yell it at me rather than just look unfinished.

I know this is off-topic, but I saw this vintage kimono and thought of you.
Keep up the great work I really enjoy your blog!

I love those red birds’-nest ones, but the others are a bit too nutty for my tastes
This season, I think I’ll just shop vintage.

I’ve been loving all the futuristic stuff that’s been coming out lately. A while back designers were going crazy things with how the heels were attached to the shoes and I loved it. I really love those alexander mcqueens. Personally i love the shape of a really high heel, but because I’m already so tall and plus heels tend to kill my feet i don’t really have many. But I like to appreciate them like art – sometimes I want to buy gorgeous shoes even if they don’t fit because I just love looking at them – maybe I’ll get a really sky high heel and put it up on my shelf

Sammy Doll: I love a girl who’s always up for random adventures! I was checking out your new shoe purchases on your blog- it looks like you’ve been having a great time shopping!
Scribbles: Haha, I never thought about the prospect of wearing boots and still getting my feet wet! Therefore, the peep toes might be kind of silly. It rains a lot here in the winter, too.
Charlene: Cool shoes are like art; over the years I’ve had many pairs displayed on shelving!

Marni, please.

Auntie Nubs: The Marnis are my favorites too! Last season’s styles were even better, but I won’t give you any more information or else we could end up going down another dangerous road….
