The Week in Pictures: 6/6/08

I started out the week working on some more new art. I always sit on my floor to work so I can spread out all the scraps for collaging and here’s my view! Lee just nicknamed my office “Nubby’s Scrapbook Nook.” Ha!

On Tuesday night, I was chatting with Lee in the kitchen when he started laughing at me. I had no idea why until he pointed out that my pants and the kitchen rug were a perfect match. It’s like camouflage, I tell you!

Wednesday was my last day of school! It still hasn’t quite sunk in yet. We had portfolio reviews all morning and I was very happy with the feedback that I got. Things are on a roll for me design-wise!

On Thursday, the other Nemo design intern and I went out for waffles at Jáce Gáce. I always get their fresh fruit and yogurt waffle. We’re constantly fighting our addiction and you can see why! (It doesn’t help that it’s only two blocks away…)

In the afternoon, imagine my surprise when flowers were delivered to Nemo for me for graduating by Nemo! Awwwww.

When I finally got them home, the bouquet was so big that I split some of the flowers out to set on my desk.

Last night was my graphic design portfolio show at school. I wore a Forever21 dress with Dries boots. The high/low mix strikes again!

Imagine my surprise when four Nemo-ites showed up! Look how excited they were to be there!!

I still couldn’t believe that they were there. Andy asked where the keg was…I told him that there was lemonade at the end of the hallway. After that, my dad and some more family members kept me company. Then, it was time for some after school fun!

We drove down to scenic Downtown Troutdale. It looks like an idyllic place that’s in the middle of nowhere, but really, it’s like two minutes from the freeway. The bar in the Chinese restaurant down the street was full, so I spent part of the night at another dive bar with my grandma, grandpa and some extended family.

Once we finally got seating (three big tables pushed together), all hell broke loose with gambling, merrymaking, huge platters of food and an impromptu ‘Happy Birthday’ song for my grandma, who just turned 78! It was such a great night and I’m glad to be done with school (for good) this time!

Oh, baby. There’s no stopping you now! I’m thinking we should trade in our signature strawberry ice cream for waffles. That’s one of my favorite things!

Congrats! You are such a talented designer, I can’t wait to hear all about what comes next for you. I can’t believe my own graduation is only a few months away! PS, did you do any multimedia/animation/web design as part of your course? My whole third year is pretty much all of that and no print, its driving me mad!

Lisa: My program was only two years long, but yes the second year was much less print / much more web-based design. We did websites and learned a bunch of animation tricks in Flash mostly. I’m like you, I much prefer print!
pinkrock: it’s as good as it looks!!
Amelia: I’m lucky in that my program was only two (very long days) a week and I also had an internship three days a week and my own art and design business on the side so I never really felt attached to school life….though I’m going to miss some of the amazing designers in my class!

Lindsey: It’s such a relief! For so long, everything I did felt very rushed and always scheduled. I feel like I can finally catch my breath!
