The Week in Pictures: 5/20/08

week in pictures nubby twiglet typography

This has been one of the busiest weeks I’ve had in ages (and that’s saying a lot)! It started off nicely enough as I sipped my morning chai out of a vintage Mademoiselle mug Smokey found at an estate sale. He is always giving me the cutest presents (and they definitely make up for his occasional brotherly brattiness)!

The presents didn’t stop there. Auntie Nubs paid me a visit bearing a miniature plaque complete with a creepily authentic looking deer head. It looks way more real in person; I had a friend peek into the paper bag it was stored in and she jumped back in fear! It’s now happily residing on my office wall.

I managed to grab a free moment to run over to Forever21 and pick up a pair of glasses I’d been coveting. They remind me of Keith Haring in the 80s and though they are quite odd on, they make me feel like an art star of an era long gone.

The week sped up as I attempted to get my 11 x 17 inch portfolio completed. 16 pages of work are stored in beautiful white acrylic. You’ll get to see the finished product next week!

Back at Nemo, thing were also super busy. Dave Allen just set me up on the Social Cache blog where I’ll soon be posting regular features. Besides that, I’ve been working alongside the team on a new ad campaign and the busier I get, the more my pile of sticky notes grows!

I was having a really bad night on Wednesday, so Lee Z packed me up and took me out to buy some treats. So many choices! We decided on vegan sticky buns. Awwwww.

Last night, my dad and some other family members picked me up at Nemo and we all went out to the Kennedy Schoolhouse for a few drinks. Here’s my grandpa and I hangin’ out in the parking lot…

Two homemade hard ciders later, I didn’t feel so stressed out.

How was your week?

Ashe: It’s so tiny too, maybe only 6 inches wide! I’m glad you like the glasses- they make me self-conscious because the super round shape is hard to pull off, but the color is so pretty.

  2. Auntie Nubs says:

Your “The Week in Pictures” is my favorite feature. I love the glimpses into your world. xxoooxx

annie: My grandpa is pushing 80 and will ONLY wear cowboy boots, even if he’s chopping wood for 12 hours. He’s awesome. He can build anything and gamble like a pro! And, I’d like to see you in some cutie little glasses!

Auntie Nubs: I’m glad you like it. This week has been a total rollercoaster! I’ll call you this weekend to catch up. I miss you but am glad your feet are outfitted in the finest squishy Dutch footwear!

  4. annie says:

nubby; i imagine your grandparents coming from another time altogether. it sounds like they never ‘grew old’ and that is amazing and really effing cool. ++ (i’ve secretly always wanted to wear glasses!)

I love that portfolio! I’ve been on the look-out for a nice white one. I have a cheap-o white binder that’s working out ok for now, and I’ll prob post pics of it in my blog soon. but I need a nice one, may I be rude for a sec and ask how much it cost?

There’s one from Veer that is beautiful, it’s woodgrain and i think it would look great with your stuff in it.

i wanted it so badly, but it really doesn’t go with the aesthetic of my work at all.

annie: It’s so true! I forget how old they are sometimes; they don’t use canes or anything and still perfectly sharp and alert!

Laura: I got my portfolio from The Office:

It’s a Pina Zangaro and was a little over $100.00 including a 10-pack of heavyweight plastic sheets. Spendy, but I figured that this is the only one I’ll ever buy and I think it’s an important investment!

Lorra: Thanks, it’s Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Extreme Wear in BLACK OUT. Super cheap and it really lasts…

We are so happy to find some other ‘chiks’ whom are art’sy, creative and unique. Looks like we have lots in common as far as style (our own), interests and we’re all on line. WOW!
I mainly want to introduce my inspirational beaU-nique daughter to your site, she’ll enjoy bouncin’ ideas off with you and fellow gals.
Ashley Brooke Nixon, is a bright light shining out of a dimly lit town in Georgia. Many folks do not appreciate her creative nature.
