Haus Beautiful: More Details

Visiting my grandma’s house when I was younger, I used to stare up at her collector’s plates hung along the walls. In my new kitchen, there was a gap of space directly above the windows, so I decided to hang a few graphic number plates that I found in a NYC thrift store a few years back. You can find the hangers for about $2.00 at most variety or craft stores.

Also, I managed to find some delightfully baroque kitchen towels at World Market! It’s all about the details- tiny things that make a room pop.

The closet in my office is super tiny and does not have a door. I remedied this by buying a small white curtain rod from Target and sliding on a vintage striped curtain I found at a thrift store. The ‘T’ (for Twiglet!) is from Anthropologie. Things are definitely coming together, slowly but surely.

love the plates and the new pad! i am trying to remember where, but i know i saw these really awesome plate hangers that are big stickers that go on the back of the plate so you dont see any hardware, then you just soak them in water to remove them. ill keep looking!

As an avid reader of your blog I first want to commend the wonderfulness of it! Secondly, and in relation to this topic, I’m curious as to whether or not you have any advice for a Portland newcomer? I’m somewhat blindly moving from the east coast and am rather unsure where to start looking in terms of neighborhoods, etc: what’s good, what’s not? If you have any helpful hints I’d be ever so gracious!

Portland can be a tough place to break into. But, most of the people I know that moved here, after some initially rough times, wouldn’t trade it for living anywhere else. The job market is MUCH better than it used to be an creatives abound, but housing / rent prices have jumped significantly. S.E. Portland and North Portland are the more fun, hip parts of town. All of Portland is super easy to navigate via public transportation- the bus and train (MAX) are city-wide and still expanding.
Hmm…I’m not sure what else to say. Let me know if you have any more questions! I’ve traveled the U.S. and Portland and NY are the only places I’d permanently call home. It’s pretty livable and progressive here.

Ohhh thank you, at least I have an idea where to start looking! It seems pretty tough trying to map this move out but it sure does seem worth it. x!
